Google, and most major search engines, provides a filtering mechanism to remove results from their searches that
may offend uptight or insecure people. Strong language, porn and such. What they don't do, however, is provide
a way to view only that content which is deemed unfit for family audiences. Enter UnSafeSearch, this
page will do search on google both with and without SafeSearch(tm), and return only those results SafeSearch
removes.
Search
Applications
There are several tasks this script is useful for. Webmasters can do a site search for site:somedomain.com
to to see which of their pages aren't making it into SafeSearch results. Porn surfers use it to find the
content they want amongst the large number of irrelevant vanilla pages, and people with an interest in
politics and the media can find out what's not being shown to some audiences.
Note: Google's SafeSearch filter does not work especially well, so I can't recommend it to parents
(not that I would), try searching for 'kittens' to see the sort of false positives the thing turns up. It's
just as bad with false negatives.
Related to: Yahoo UnSafeSearch, and to Ask.com, which uniquely has this behavior right out of the box (bless their cotton socks).
Upgrade in progress
This script is currently being revised to work with the latest Google API plugin for Kapenta, it may be a little erratic for the next few days.
