Words: Fortress of Deception You may think you knew me well You thought you had me figured out My aims, my goals My heart and soul What makes me tick, what I`m about You wrapped yourself in your beliefs Your “blanket of protection” You caused me endless grief Always doubting my affection All was said yet nothing heard My words had no effect It was your delusions you preferred Over treating me with respect You thought you knew just how I felt The “fiendish plots`` I planned Distrust and doubt, were the cards you dealt Made for a lousy hand Recalcitrant, unshakable You built your fortress high With foggy glass unbreakable …castle in the sky I once wished that you`d believe And see the real me… But you insist that I deceive, So I had to set you free We wandered off and lost our way In opposite directions… With all I know Where could I go? Affection/correction/detection/question My stupid heart Won’t fall apart This cut has gone too deep I can’t hang on To a ledge that’s gone -- Rather fall than take a leap “All is fair in love and war” Or so the saying goes I said, “I won’t give up without a fight” Bestows/foes/grows/knows I’d happily bear the battle scars For the kisses that I missed That privilege became her reward They simply don’t exist/insist/list/resist It’s a long-forgotten ache when/pen/then Pain borne From something strong A lashing of the belt I think I’ll feel again/felt No sunset’s glow No kiss to-go Or laughter overheard Like wishes fade The plans we made It’s all become absurd Don’t tell me that you love me Or haunt my waking dreams I’ve repaid my debt A million times And it’s later than seems Nobody said it was easy, Oh it`s such a shame for us to part. Nobody said it was easy, No one ever said it would be so hard. I`m goin` back to the start. My endless xxxxx And useless affection could never pierce xxxx fierce/ Your fortress of deception.
